Mary Claeson- February 2020:discovered the Weaving room shortly after I moved to SCW in Nov. of 2006. I was immediately captivated and so thrilled that I now had time in retirement to pursue hobbies I wanted to try. I had been a quilter for many years but weaving became my new challenge! I wasn’t able to get in the Beginning Weaving class until, I believe,  2008 due to a long waiting list. At that time there was no prerequisite rigid heddle class and we learned on the Woolhouse table looms to start. I love weaving and the wonderful Guild members and 12 years later, it is still my favorite hobby. As many people do, I bought my own loom(s), first a 24″ Schact table loom and since, a 40″ 8-shaft Gilmore loom which I love. I took a lace class with Pearl Quast and I think that is my favorite tecnique overall…but how does one choose! I have recently been weaving baby blankets for my 5 grandchildren…to be given to their first-born child. After all, I may not be around, or still weaving, when those babies arrive! I think it is a good legacy from their great-grandmother of a craft she loved so much! A few years ago, I learned to spin yarn with the Spinners in our Guild…another dimension of our craft and so much fun! So far, I have not used my hand-spun for weaving but it is certainly my intention! So honored to share this with you!
